Hi, I’m Carla,

I am a crusader for poetry, craft and integrity in fashion. I help environmentally and socially concerned fashion creatives to get confidence and direction so they can make and showcase meaningful work.

Despite my better judgement I have been preoccupied with fashion my entire life. According to my parents, the first sentence I spoke was about a necklace I wanted them to buy me, to match my bracelet. Even a baby can recognise the magic and significance of bodily adornment!

Tune in to the podcast

Through the Fashion Wayfinder podcast I discuss the behind-the-scenes processes of fashion, with a focus on design and making.  The podcast is about both the grind and the alchemy of fashion.

I collect stories and wisdom from industry veterans and emerging designers, practitioners and educators. I share my own wacky experiences and fashion faux-pas to provide insight to others.

A little about me

I currently based in my hometown of Brisbane, Australia, so I view the world through antipodean sunglasses. I have worked for 6 years as a fashion lecturer at the Queensland University of Technology.

Prior to returning to live in Brisbane, I lived and worked in high-heels in Paris for 6 years, in the heart of high-end designer fashion. I hope to share insight and humour from my various fashion perspectives.

Over the last 3 years I have been fortunate to mentor many Indonesian fashion designers through the Australian Government’s Australia Awards program.

I look forward to sharing the exciting world of fashion and textiles that lies beyond the traditional fashion capitals.

Resources for you

In our world of environmental crisis and corporate power, I hope to inspire and serve independent fashion creatives and entrepreneurs. Let us fly the flag for fashion creativity and resilience always!
